The transfer that will decide the gold medal? "He looks like an 18-year-old"

The transfer that will decide the gold medal? "He looks like an 18-year-old"

Let us recall that the German volleyball player found himself in the Polish league due to an injury suffered by Karol Butryn. The attacker of Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie did not finish match number 3 in the semi-final clash with PGE Projekt Warszawa. Ultimately, the Jurajski Rycerze managed to snatch a place in the PlusLiga final, but in it they were quickly brought down to earth by their driven rivals – Bogdanka LUK Lublin.

PlusLiga: Will Georg Grozer save the gold medal for Jurassic Knights?

The Lublin team, which has already won the Challenge Cup this season, won the first two PlusLiga finals against Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie without losing a single set. In the second match, the one played in Lublin, Grozer replaced the injured Butryn. The German replaced Kyle Ensing during the match. The American was “enough” for the semi-final in Warsaw, making a great start, but Bogdanka LUK set much more difficult conditions.

Grozer's return to the PlusLiga ended with eight points over 2.5 sets.

– In this first match, Georg actually arrived a day earlier. This time it was different, he trained with us twice and the feeling between the setter and the attacker looked better. So far it's working, I hope that on Saturday we will also show good volleyball – said Bartosz Kwolek after winning match number 3 of the final competition.

"Kwolo" was chosen MVP of the last chance match for Jurajskie Rycerze . The Polish vice-champions from the 2023/24 season won 3:1 in Sosnowiec, thus extending the competition to the fourth (Saturday, May 10) - and perhaps also - a possible fifth meeting (Tuesday, May 13). The second candidate for the statuette was certainly the aforementioned Grozer. The German added 19 points, but his energy infected the other teammates on the pitch, also drawing a lot from the loud stands.

– I don't think I need to tell anyone about Grozer's class. He's a great player, despite his 40 or 41 years. On the pitch, he looks like an eighteen-year-old, and he's also a great guy in the locker room, who added some great fire, so that's definitely an additional plus for us – added Mateusz Bieniek, captain of Jurajskie Rycerze.

It seems that bringing in the German representative on the basis of a so-called medical transfer was a bull's eye for coach Michał Winiarski. Interestingly, the coach also knows Grozer from their joint cooperation in the German national team. It was this attacker who gave a lot of good to the German team, both in the fight for the Olympic Games and in the tournament in Paris.

Grozer is very popular with fans in Poland. Born in November 1984 in Budapest, the German representative won the Polish championship in the colours of Asseco Resovia Rzeszów in 2012. That was thirteen (!) years ago, the club's emblem from Podkarpacie is tattooed on the volleyball player's hand and, as the interested party himself admitted, if the gold eventually went to Zawiercie, there will also be a place for the Aluron CMC Warta logo.

How will it be in practice? We will find out in the near future.
